An estimated "103 million U.S. adults have high blood pressure" according to new statistics from the American Heart Association. There are over a billion people around the world who suffer high blood pressure.
Amidst a pandemic, maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle became more complicated. The closure of athletic clubs, along the cease of all sporting activities increased our risks for health problems.
Luckily, not all hopes are lost.
Following a well-balanced, nutritious diet is suggested for all people, including those on blood-pressure-lowering medications. We are going to list activities, and foods that could help lower your blood pressure levels!
Starting with foods:
- Pumpkin Seeds: A great source of protein, these are packed with a bunch of nutrients like magnesium, potassium, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
- Fish (Salmon, Albacore, Tuna, etc,.): Fatty Fish contain lots of Omega-3
- Berries: Antioxidants known to increase nitric oxide levels in the blood reducing the pressure.
- Carrots: High in phenolic compounds, such as caffeic acids, help relax blood vessels and reduce inflammation.
Moving on to exercising regularly with at least a minimum of 30 minutes a day. Be consistent as this will help you maintain the levels low. Going on walks, riding bicycle or even dancing are great exercise activities.
Reducing the amount of processed foods and sodium intake can also help.
Limiting the amount of alcohol consumption and quitting smoking.
Finding way to reduce stress like meditating or yoga classes.
